Welcome to My World

Meaning the very opposite of what it sounds like.

Let me explain. The phrase “my world” usually means the world in which you live. The actual spaces you inhabit. It also means the day to day experiences you encounter. So I inhabit the world of my neighborhood, my community, my school (workplace), my city, state, and nation. I also inhabit the world of mom of a college student, fourth grade teacher, suburbanite, dog mom, fiancée, blogger, and more.

We all inhabit multiple worlds.

Those worlds, however, aren’t what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the great big wide world which I mostly haven’t seen or visited. I certainly haven’t inhabited it. But I do welcome it, and I do claim it.

I claim it because it is as much mine as it is anyone’s. It belongs to all or us and none of us. It is our big wide world, and I’m glad you’re in it with me.one-world-week.jpg

There are eyes on my words around this planet we inhabit. Someone in South Africa reads my words, and shares her thoughts. Another in the Bahamas shares the experience of raising a young man, and we have a bond. We feel connected because something larger than each of us is at play. We may or may not have anything in common, but somehow you’ve found me, and I find that particularly marvelous, so I want to shout from the rooftoop, Welcome, Welcome to you all!

Two Down, One to Go

So that whole procrastination thing? Turns out it can be kind of a drag.

The good news it, two of my huge assignments are done and turned in. One of them has already be favorably assessed. So that’s good, right? However…

One. More. Assignment.

Well, one more before the next class, and then I think there’s another one after that, you know, just for fun.

Okay, I can totally do this. In fact I’m all but ready to write it up. I’ve put in the time, done the research, and now I just need to wrap it up. Yep. That’s it. Not asking too much, is it?

But you know what? I’m fried. Extra crispy, in fact. Hmmm… that makes me wonder if I’m hungry? I’ve been at my computer for hours! And not surfing either, really, truly working.

It’s time for a break. Maybe some dinner. Then maybe, just maybe I’ll finish off that last assignment tonight. But really, probably not.

Procrastination

I’m supposed to be doing my homework. Homework I was supposed to do over winter vacation.

I’ve been working on it, but it’s time for a break. Why? Because my head is swimming.

Between Costa’s three levels of questioning, eleven Kaplan icons, and six thinking hats, I’m done. At least for the moment.

It’s good stuff, really it is. It’s interesting, and I’m enjoying learning more about the world of educating gifted kids, but I need a break.

I’m afraid my brain isn’t as fluid as it once was, and integrating new learning is tougher.

I’m feeling overwhelmed by my commitments lately and don’t quite know where to start.

I just haven’t had the mojo to get these assignments done. There, that’s the truth.

So now I’m digging out from under them to get them finished. It’s a lot, but I can do it. That’s it for my break. My conscience is clear now, and soon one of my assignments will be done and submitted, so that’s a good thing too. Thanks for letting me hang out with you for a few minutes while I procrastinated. I really did need it.
