Doing the Hustle

21730983_10212501371843366_7940934124596166908_n.jpg

Can I get a woot-woot? Yes, I did it, I finally won a workweek hustle this week. My fitbit buddy ropes me into this thing each week, and then each week he outperforms me, by a lot. Still, it keeps me moving, even if I do feel like a failure week after week. No, that’s not really true. I don’t feel like a failure, but I don’t feel like a winner either, because, hello, I don’t win. Until now. I WON.

There were several other people in the challenge, but when it came down to the wire, it was my friend and me, with me in the lead. Normally the challenge goes to midnight, but this week it was started by someone in a different time zone, so 9 pm was the deadline. With about an hour to go I was up by a few thousand steps, but my friend can easily crank out that many in a short period of time, so I kept marching in place and generally making myself crazy adding steps. At one point I found myself walking in circles, then in the opposite direction so I wouldn’t fall down. And still, he wouldn’t synch his steps. I know he did it on purpose. He’s diabolical like that.

In the end it didn’t matter, because I won by a comfortable margin, and yes, I did a happy dance. Why? Because I know he’s way better at getting exercise during the week, but this week I really tried hard!

So I enjoyed my victory while it lasted, then accepted the weekend warrior challenge, which I am currently failing at miserably. Hey, I’m tire! I exercised a lot last week!

Oh, and by the way, I do feel a little like a loser, because I’ve lost about thirty pounds since June. Yeah, baby!

Tiniest Month Challenge Update

71l05uragql-_sx355_

February is the tiniest month, so I figured I could handle a challenge that was only for this month. I decided to challenge myself to get my Fitbit step count every day in February, and so far so good.
Last Saturday I almost didn’t make it. I was battling a horrible allergy attack all day long, sneezing and wheezing and generally feeling miserable, but I did it.

I even bought myself an assortment of different colored bands for my Fitbit, because although I love magenta, it just doesn’t quite go with everything!

How are you doing with your challenges?

Hello Fitbit

I’ve happily joined the ranks of the constantly plugged-in. I received (by my request) a Fitbit Flex 2 as a holiday gift, and I think it’s pretty nifty.simple.b-cssdisabled-png.h0107224485745d7a099c9463a0a3e71a.pack.png

Longtime readers may recall that the only exercise I’ve really found enjoyable over the years is exercise in the pool, so I was delighted when I learned that these little gadgets were safe for use in water. It’s been too cold for that now, but walking on terra firma has taken on a new bit of fun with the little blinking lights around my wrist.

Some features I like:

  • It buzzes me at ten minutes before the hour if I haven’t taken at least 250 steps. I need to get up and MOVE, and the vibration reminds me to do it.
  • It buzzes me if my phone rings or I get a text. I’m a teacher and don’t spend all day looking at my phone, so this is handy.
  • When I hit my goal number of steps for the day (which I set, thank you very much) it does this little flashing dance party on my wrist. I dig it.

I’m not ready for any big challenges yet, or anything like that, but so far so good. Like they say, one step at a time.
