Not bad for a fat girl

Check Me Out – But Not Too Closely

Blog stats are a funny thing. They can give a blogger a sense of what people are interested in reading, and they can practically make a blogger (ok, me) giddy when they spike. I want to be read! I also get a kick out of checking out the map. I enjoy it when people from far-flung places visit, even if I suspect the majority of them aren’t actually reading the content.

That being said, I still have to write content that’s worth reading. My dear readers, I know I’ve been missing that mark more times than hitting it lately. What can I say, other than, I’m sorry? I promise to try harder.

Still, you continue to hang with me, and some of you are even getting out your tool belts and rolling up your sleeves to dig around BulgingButtons to unearth some oldies but goodies. I think it’s often the catchy titles that attract readers to start with. Some of the posts with the most hits have odd titles, like “Goodbye Zebra Mules,” and “The Devil, Karma, and Frito Pie.” Hopefully, though, you enjoy more than just the title.

Hopefully you enjoy reading about my daily ups and downs, and the perils of being a fat girl in a skinny (or desperately trying to be skinny) world. stained-shirt-300x225Today’s fat girl problem: the shelf. You know, that place along the boob line where dropped food always seems to hit before careening off into the unknown (or just settling there).

As I write, I am wearing yet another shirt with a stain along the shelf. Why? Because salad dressing stains. Yes, I got it on myself while I was at lunch with my friend. The food never goes straight down when it falls off the fork (and why exactly does it fall off the fork in the first place? I don’t know). It invariably hits the shelf and leaves a tell-tale mark, which, 90% of the time leaves a stain.

This is why fat women wear prints. The stains are far less noticeable on a print than they are on a field of solid lavender (like the shirt I have most recently stained). This is also why this fat girl hates to spend much on shirts or dresses. About 1 in 5 never make it past the first wearing. 20% people! This is a distressingly high statistic. It’s alarming, really.

What can be done? I don’t know. A better fork? Less messy food? IV fluids only? It seems like there are some options out there. This problem needs a solution, and it needs it fast, because I’m running out of clothes, and I really don’t want to go shopping.

Please Stop By

I admit it, I’m sick and my content today pretty much sucks. Sappy 70’s songs from am radio? Songs that I don’t even particularly like? Really? Yes, that’s what I came up with for today. So sorry.

My nose is stuffy, my throat is killing me, my hands are frozen, and my head is on fire. I’m feeling like poop. We’ve all been there, and it’s not a fun place to be. In between naps today I put up my horrible 70’s flashback in hopes that someone, anyone, would stop by to visit me. Few of you have. Sniff. I swear I’m not contagious over the internet!

images-1This reminds me of a time back in the days when I was a candle lady. I did at home parties for one of those companies, and I really did love their products. I enjoyed doing the shows, meeting new people, and sharing decorating ideas. One year, as the holidays were nearing, I had some extra product and decided to do an Open House. I made up adorable flyers, I let all of my contacts know I was doing it, and I went around the neighborhood personally handing out the invitations. I set up a beautiful display in my living room, put out large signs in the neighborhood, and waited. And waited. And waited. Not one person showed up.

I felt like such a loser. That’s how I feel some days with this blog. Why don’t people stop by? Sometimes it happens on days when the content is a little iffy, like today, but other times I feel like I’ve written a whiz bang piece, and nobody takes the time to read it. Of course the flip side is true too. How many times have there been lots of visitors when there isn’t even anything new to read? Not that I want to discourage anyone from stopping by at any time. There’s plenty to sift through on the blog, and I imagine that I’m the only one who has actually read every post, so there should be something “new to you” even if there isn’t a new post.

So there you have it, my invitation to you to keep BulgingButtons in your bookmarks, and to stop by often. Please comment, good or bad, and I’ll do my best to get back to you quickly. Without readers like you, there isn’t much point to blogging.

Cleaning Out The Drafts

Talk about crazy, here I sit going through my various stuff, seeing what I ‘ve written and trying to figure out if there are any trends. I also took a little time to sort through my spam folder, and figured I would wander over to my draft folder too, just to see what was collecting cobwebs over there.

Imagine my surprise when I found this post, completely done, with illustration inserted and everything. Why on earth didn’t I publish it? I wrote it on the 21st of November, in the thick of NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo, so all I can think of is that my poor tired brain must have been completely fried. I wonder if I thought I hit the publish button but didn’t? Weird. Anyway, since it’s done and I’m doing some end of the year clean up, I present a nearly month old blog post, originally entitled NaNo No No.

tuesSo here we are three weeks into NaNoWriMo and I have over 33,000 words written. I survived my NaNoWriMo Freak-O and have learned the important art of correctly backing up files. I have also been a good little NaBloPoMo participant, posting at least one blog post per day since November 1.

Let me tell you, that’s a lot of words. Oh, I know, for some of you it’s a drop in the bucket, but for this girl, it’s a lot. Today I composed two blogs posts and wrote a piece for my writing class. When it came time to work on my novel, I just couldn’t quite do it. I hit a wall. I needed a break.

So here’s the NoNo: I did not work on my novel at all today. Not one word. So what? Give yourself a break, I think. But the deadline won’t give me a break. I really want to get my 50,000 words written before midnight on November 30. Whining about it here won’t get it done. But it’s laaaaaaate. And I’m tiiiiiiiired. Oh jeez. Time to give it up for a few hours and come back to it later. I will get it done. I’m the little engine that could. Look out, the weekend is coming! And then, no more no no’s.
